Holly and Carnation

Richard Heyworth

A stumpwork holly and carnation, sewn with cotton DMC on linen, with wrapped wooden beads for the holly berries. Each holly leaf wraps an internal wire, and each uses a different filling stitch - split back stitch, fly stitch, and fishbone stitch. The carnation stem is stem stitch, then padded satin stitch, and the petal is three rows of brussels stitch. The white border is Elizabethan looped edging.
